Thank you for enquiring about me and my health coaching.
Four years ago, in my mid 40s I began to realise something wasn’t quite right with my health. My joints ached, I had a constantly irritated throat, I was on a daily rollercoaster ride of eating and tiredness and I was gradually putting on weight. This was despite being a regular runner who trained for a marathon every spring. Most alarmingly for me was that I had brain fog and one day I forgot a colleague’s name.
I realised something had to be done as I was feeling old before my time and things would only get worse! I tried the conventional way of dieting, - low calories, low fat and to my horror I didn’t lose any weight despite almost starving myself and feeling very miserable.
Thankfully, about this time I heard Professor Grant Schofield from Prekure talking on a running podcast and everything he said could have been about me. I immediately ditched the calorie counting and low fat, tasteless food. I began to eat whole, unprocessed food low in carbohydrates and containing healthy fat. I couldn’t believe the difference! I was losing weight easily, I didn’t feel like I was on a diet and all my health issues improved or disappeared.
I was so happy but upset that I didn’t know about this before. I had been following the government guidelines about the healthy eating plate or pyramid and felt cheated. I wanted to share my experience with others who I could see, like me, were struggling too so that led me to change my career and become a health coach.
I am a certified Prekure Health Coach which means I have completed a comprehensive health and nutrition course. To graduate the course I have been trained to coach clients in practice and real-life situations. This has enabled me to refine my coaching skills. My approach is to listen, encourage and provide the appropriate support for my client. I can occasionally give hard truths if I have the client’s permission and I feel it is necessary but if you are expecting a boot camp I am probably not the coach for you!
My particular interest is in the low carbohydrate, healthy fat way of eating, concentrating on eating whole, unprocessed food with little human interference. We will discuss what you prefer to eat and then design a healthy eating regime to suit your lifestyle. We will also consider other aspects of your lifestyle that may be impacting on your health eg sleep, exercise and stress. My emphasis is on working together, you make the decisions but I will advise and guide you as appropriate.
When I am not health coaching I am a Mum to 2 teenage children. I love running and gardening with an emphasis on creating a haven for wildlife and I can be found hiking around the nearby Peak District with my husband and our dog – Henry.
